Madison High School greeted thousands of new students for the first time at the beginning of January 2019. TCM’s $94 million project, which is a part of the Houston Independent School District’s 2012 Bond program, spans 265,000 square feet and will accommodate up to 2,100 students. The new building features a two-story foyer that doubles as a dining commons and large gathering space and offers plenty of natural light.

TCM provided project management services and project oversite to Madison’s design, construction, and closeout processes. Madison is one of the many schools that TCM is either constructing or renovating as part of the HISD bond program, including Sterling Aviation High School, Condit Elementary School, DeBakey High School, Barbara Jordan Career Center, and the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy, among others.

“The students, faculty, and staff were very excited about the move into the new facility,” Principal Paolo Castagnoli said. “This is not only an updated, modern learning environment for our scholars, but provides the facilities we need to develop our CTE and college prep programs to ensure that all of our student are college and career ready when they graduate from Madison.”

The school entrance is flanked by three, two-story academic wings to the east and performing arts and community spaces to the west. The gymnasium, athletics area, and swimming pool are located in the northeast portion of the building.

“We are very excited about the prospects this brings for both our students and the community we serve,” Castagnoli said.

Once the construction on the high school proper was complete, TCM also managed the demolition of the old school building and the installation of a new athletic complex in its place.

Madison is among 40 schools being renovated or rebuilt as part of the 2012 Bond Program. Once all projects are done, HISD – one of the nation’s largest school districts – will have one of the most modern portfolios of urban high schools in the country.
